Hello,
I am really interested in you Flickr Search Tool, because I need to build a similar project :)

It is based on the one at Adobe:
http://learn.adobe.com/wiki/display/Flex/1d.+RIA+Tutorial
A few tweaks added but that is the bulk of it – and there is a video tutorial there too. Maybe there are better ways to do it now because it is quite old.
